Le groupe de recherche international et interdisciplinaire Archiver le présent lance un appel à projets pour son exposition en ligne intitulée Re|Search (mai 2020).
Re|Search vise à rendre compte de la pulsion de recherche propre à l’ère numérique. Déjà, en 2008, Geert Lovink signait un essai sur la société de la requête et la googlisation de nos vies («The society of the query and the Googlization of our lives», Eurozine, septembre 2008) dans lequel sont adressés l’état de surcharge informationnelle et la dépendance aux moteurs de recherche comme Google. Dès lors que la gestion des données est confiée aux géants du web, les enjeux d’accessibilité, de sécurité, de surveillance et de vie privée se posent avec une acuité croissante.
À l’heure actuelle, les impacts de la pression encyclopédique s’étendent dans toutes les sphères de la société. L’internet et les réseaux sociaux se présentent comme nos moyens incontournables de recherche et d’accès aux connaissances. Des actions comme googler, copier-coller, collectionner et partager font dorénavant partie de nos usages quotidiens. Quels en sont leurs effets sur les imaginaires personnels et collectifs?
L’exposition en ligne Re|Search s’intéresse à la manière dont les pratiques artistiques, littéraires et culturelles reflètent et déjouent cette pression technologique. Comment permettent-elles de réfléchir à la gestion tentaculaire des données, aux méthodes et aux outils de recherche en ligne? Quels types d’actions et de récits alternatifs proposent-elles? Par quels moyens investissent-elles le lieu même d’où naissent ces préoccupations: le web?
MODALITÉS DE SOUMISSION
Nous vous invitons à soumettre des projets artistiques, activistes ou hacktivistes qui se déploient dans l’espace en ligne et mettent à profit les technologies numériques dans une perspective critique et engagée. Nous encourageons particulièrement les projets issus de la diversité culturelle, des groupes en quête d’équité et de communautés sous-représentées.
Notre appel vise autant les oeuvres web en cours de production que celles achevées. Que vous soyez l’initiateur·rice du projet ou un·e internaute qui désire nous faire découvrir une pratique qui vous passionne, toute proposition est la bienvenue!
Pour soumettre votre oeuvre en tant que créateur·rice
Nous envoyer un courriel (aln-nt2@uqam.ca) et inscrire dans l’objet «APPEL À PROJETS - CRÉATEUR·RICE».
Dans le corps du courriel, inscrire les informations suivantes:
- Nom ou pseudonyme;
- Titre de l’oeuvre;
- Année de production;
- Lien URL de l’oeuvre ou description du projet en cours (350 mots maximum);
- Notice biographique ou démarche artistique (150 mots maximum) - optionnel.
Pour soumettre une oeuvre dont vous n’êtes pas le·a créateur·rice
Nous envoyer un courriel (aln-nt2@uqam.ca) et inscrire dans l’objet «APPEL À PROJETS - COLLABORATEUR·RICE».
Dans le corps du courriel, inscrire les informations suivantes:
- Titre de l’oeuvre;
- Année de production (si disponible);
- Lien URL de l’oeuvre;
- Nom ou pseudonyme si vous désirez figurer dans notre liste de collaborateur.rices - optionnel.
S’il vous plaît nous contacter pour nous soumettre une proposition sous un autre format ou pour toute question liée à l’appel.
PROCESSUS DE SÉLECTION
L’équipe de commissaires de Re|Search sélectionnera les projets selon leur qualité et leur arrimage avec les thématiques de l’exposition. Les créateur·rices et collaborateur·rices recevront une réponse dans les deux mois suivant la date limite de soumission.

Archiver le présent se dédie à l’analyse et la valorisation de pratiques artistiques, littéraires et culturelles contemporaines qui s’inscrivent dans un imaginaire de l’exhaustivité et de l’épuisement. Le groupe de recherche s’intéresse aux œuvres qui répondent au contexte numérique et à la gestion tentaculaire de données. Il privilégie une analyse interdisciplinaire afin de comprendre comment la création et la culture documentent le présent en poussant l’archive à ses limites.

Archiver le présent, the international and interdisciplinary research group, is launching a call for proposals for its upcoming online exhibition titled Re|Search (May 2020).
Re|Search aims to capture the rise of the all around impulse to search of the digital age. As early as 2008, Geert Lovink, in his seminal essay “The society of the query and the Googlization of our lives” (Eurozine, September 2008), addressed our state of information overload and dependence on search engines like Google. As data management is entrusted to web giants, accessibility, security, surveillance, and privacy become growing challenges.
At the present time, the impacts of encyclopedic pressure extend to all fields of society. The internet and social networks are our essential means of research and access to knowledge. Googling, copying and pasting, collecting, and sharing are now part of our daily routine. What are the effects of this activity on personal and collective imaginations?
The online exhibition Re|Search focuses on how artistic, literary, and cultural practices reflect and thwart this technological pressure. How do these practices allow us to think about widespread data management, online research methods, and tools? What types of alternative actions and stories do they offer? By what means do they occupy the very place of these concerns: the web?
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
We invite submissions of artistic, activist, or hacktivist projects that take place in online spaces and make use of digital technologies through a critical and socially engaged approach. We particularly encourage projects that come from cultural diversity, equity-seeking groups, and underrepresented communities.
Our call seeks out both in progress net-based art and finished works.
Whether you are the creator of a project or an internet user who wants us to discover a practice that fascinates you, all proposals are welcome!

In the body of the email, please enter the following information:
- Name or pseudonym;
- Title of the work;
- Year of production;
- URL link of the work or description of the work in progress (350 words maximum);
- Biographical note or artistic approach (150 words maximum) - optional.
To submit a work that you did not create
Please send us an email (aln-nt2@uqam.ca) using “CALL FOR PROPOSALS - COLLABORATOR” as the subject line.
In the body of the email, please enter the following information:
- Title of the work;
- Year of production (if available);
- URL link of the work;
- Name or pseudonym if you wish to be included in our list of collaborators - optional.

SELECTION PROCESS
The team of Re|Search curators will select projects according to their quality and their relevance to the exhibition's themes. Creators and collaborators will receive a response within two months of the submission deadline.

Archiver le présent is dedicated to the analysis and promotion of contemporary artistic, literary, and cultural practices that present a systematic approach to their object and play therefore with the idea of exhaustiveness. The project is interested in works that respond to the digital context and to widespread data management. We favor an interdisciplinary analysis in order to understand how arts and culture document the present by pushing the act of archiving to its limits.
